Now that I have been home for a number of weeks and had time to process the photos from our trip north it is time to start writing about it. I also needed to give my seat some time to recover from the long hours in the saddle. My travel time away from home was 37 days which in itself was a new experience. My total miles driven for this excursion was 9300. Add the additional 1466 miles traveled by ferry and the trip total is well over 10,000 miles.

Vehicle and trailer maintenance is key to successful backcountry adventure trips. I go through the trailer and…
As planning for our spring vacation started taking shape it looked like we would be revisiting areas we had traveled before. The plan was to head to the South Central part of Utah. I used a number of resources for planning this trip. These included, National Geographic maps, Google Earth, Backcountry Adventures Utah, as well as a…

The following is a quote from a message I sent them about my attendance: “I am very happy to have attended the first Dirty Toy School in Grand Junction, Colorado….
Cold, that is what it was last night. Hardscrabble Dry Camp is at 4000 feet and the low was about 24 degrees overnight. A hot breakfast and hot chocolate were needed to get us rolling today. With camp broken down and our packing done it was time to head to the Racetrack. The Racetrack Playa…
Travel, driving fast, the scenery zooming by outside the window: this is the rhythm of the interstate Highway. The point of the Interstate Highway is to get from point A to B with few stops and as fast as possible. Me, I prefer the slow route, the 2-lane blacktop that twists and winds its way…
Found I had an internet connection at our camp near the racetrack, Our trip in Death valley is going well. We had a problem today with the lower shock mount bolt coming off on the drive up racetrack valley. I was able to walk back down the road and found the shock skid and bolt….

I am seriously thinking about doing this same trip this year I have a 2007 FJ. Did your FJ hold up, any problems?. How about expenses? any advice you can give would be greatly apprecited. Also would like comments about the Alaska Marine Highway.
