I finally finished my new slide out for my new model ARB Fridge / Freezer. The new slide is an evolution from the original that I built for my old fridge. Here is a series of photos showing the construction.
ARB Fridge Freezer Slide Extended
The fridge extends out of the back to help facilitate access.
ARB Fridge Slide Stowed
When stowed the fridge fits as if designed for the space. The back of the fridge is against the rear seat and the front just touches the rear door.
Slide Prior to Install
The slide is fabricated out of steel stock that I purchased at Home Depot. The part in the center at the rear is the stop for the slide which removes the stress from the rail stops.
Slide Base Mounted
The slide is bolted through the FJ Cruiser rear floor. I used fender washers on the backs side to distribute the stress on the sheet metal.
Slide Attached to ARB Fridge Freezer
Unlike my original design, this slide bolts to the ARB Fridge which provides a very solid attachment.
Latch
The latch is designed to hold the fridge in when stowed. I have a little more work to do on the latch so it work on its own when the fridge is stowed. I will be adding a spring to it as well as a stop to prevent it from dropping down when not latched.
Fridge Slide from Right Side
The side view shows how easy the access will be.
I still need to complete the slide cover which will provide a sleeve that the fridge slides into. With the cover I will be able to load gear in the rear compartment with out affecting the fridges ability to slide out.
The Annex for the ARB Simpson III Rooftop tent is a fantastic addition. It provides an area under the tent platform that is protected from both the bugs and the elements. I’ll let the photos do most of the talking for this review. The annex is mounted to the tent platform by sliding the edges…
This is the first in a series of posts that will be a complete review of the ARB Simpson III Rooftop tent. With adventure or overland travel, camp tends to be moved almost every night. With this type of travel, setting up and tearing down the tent consume lots of time. On one of our…

Light is key to having a workable camp. I gave up on gas lanterns last year after finding that the mantles where breaking almost every time I moved camp. Gas lanterns are very bright and can light an entire work area. Initially I thought I would try to replicate this with LED lanterns. I purchased…
For our spring 2009 Adventure trip we decided to try a new tent. Our old Cabelas dome tent was starting to breakdown. The fabric is getting old and we had a large tear in the fly on our last trip. Having experienced tent destruction due to high winds on a trip years ago I gravitate…
If you’re like me, you have a collection of traditional Mini MagLite flashlights. The traditional Mini MagLite is a good light but it uses old technology with the Krypton Bulb. Being a caver, lights are a part of my life so a few years ago I started looking at ways to upgrade my Mini MagLites…
