2008 Canyonlands Maze Trip

We finished the trip with a night camping on the BLM land near Indian Creek. This is the alternate to camping in Canyonlands at Squaw Flats. We found a nice site and were finally able to have a campfire and roast marshmallows. Spending the evening around the camp fire was a great way to end a wonderful trip.

Here are some of the details that I found to be important for a trip into the Maze District:
Reservations, Canyonlands requires reservations for back country camping. If you are going to be making your trip in peak season you may need to get your reservation made months in advance.
Camp Sites, Starting the trip at Panorama Point was a great way to begin. We could see all of Canyonlands a get a perspective of where out trip would take us. For our Second night we should have made it all the way to Doll House and spent 3 nights there. An additional day hike to Chocolate Drops would have been enjoyed by us.
Equipment:
- Chains should be carried if there is any risk of rain.
- You need to have your own toilet system. We used the Pett system and were very happy with it.
Tomas,
Congrats on a great trip report! Makes us want to do the trip again!!!
Lets plan our next adventure! We’ll have to find one to top this one which will be very hard to do!!!

Great images and narrative. Query, coming of Teapot Campgrounds, as you indicated, there are three tougher places. The third, if my memory is correct, is the worst on this stretch of road. In your opinion, can an F150 crew, short bed and or F350 crew, long bed get through this one spot. The two times I have done, was not concerned as was in a CJ and it was a not event. And thanks.

With careful driving I don’t think you will have any problem with the short bed. The Long Bed would have the most issues with some of the tight turns and it might have a problem with the break over angle.
