I finally finished my new slide out for my new model ARB Fridge / Freezer. The new slide is an evolution from the original that I built for my old fridge. Here is a series of photos showing the construction.
ARB Fridge Freezer Slide Extended
The fridge extends out of the back to help facilitate access.
ARB Fridge Slide Stowed
When stowed the fridge fits as if designed for the space. The back of the fridge is against the rear seat and the front just touches the rear door.
Slide Prior to Install
The slide is fabricated out of steel stock that I purchased at Home Depot. The part in the center at the rear is the stop for the slide which removes the stress from the rail stops.
Slide Base Mounted
The slide is bolted through the FJ Cruiser rear floor. I used fender washers on the backs side to distribute the stress on the sheet metal.
Slide Attached to ARB Fridge Freezer
Unlike my original design, this slide bolts to the ARB Fridge which provides a very solid attachment.
Latch
The latch is designed to hold the fridge in when stowed. I have a little more work to do on the latch so it work on its own when the fridge is stowed. I will be adding a spring to it as well as a stop to prevent it from dropping down when not latched.
Fridge Slide from Right Side
The side view shows how easy the access will be.
I still need to complete the slide cover which will provide a sleeve that the fridge slides into. With the cover I will be able to load gear in the rear compartment with out affecting the fridges ability to slide out.
After careful consideration and discussion with other Toyota FJ Cruiser owners I decided to install a Safari Snorkel on DaToy. I do not anticipate deep water fords, rather, I installed the snorkel to provide a clean air intake. We use our Toyota FJ Cruiser as an expedition vehicle in the southwest. Many of the roads…
I have been struggling with how to store my tools in the most compact way for my off road adventures. At first I carried the molded plastic tool box as well as another box with the additional tools in it. This worked but the tools would tend to shake out of there nice little molded…
If you’re like me, you have a collection of traditional Mini MagLite flashlights. The traditional Mini MagLite is a good light but it uses old technology with the Krypton Bulb. Being a caver, lights are a part of my life so a few years ago I started looking at ways to upgrade my Mini MagLites…
The Annex for the ARB Simpson III Rooftop tent is a fantastic addition. It provides an area under the tent platform that is protected from both the bugs and the elements. I’ll let the photos do most of the talking for this review. The annex is mounted to the tent platform by sliding the edges…
At the start of each season I inspect and review the gear in my recovery kit. For this inspection everything comes out of the box, gets cleaned and inspected. The gear is then re-stowed. Here I am going to share all the gear that is in my kit as well as a few comments. During…
I am adding our travel planning check list to the site so others can use them. I will be modifying them over time as I evolve the equipment that we use and find better items for the designated task. Using living lists I hope to better refine the gear that we use for our adventure…
