With the intention of moving my roof top tent rack outside the trailer bed some frame modifications were needed.
Back to the basics
The initial modifications where to the frame. I needed to extend the front and rear frame cross members about 10″ out from the side of the bed.

The front and rear cross members where replaced. The center was extended with short sections of tubing These center sections are not structural.

The extended frame was then boxed in with the same tubing.
Replacing the tub
With the frame modified I was able to remount the tub to the trailer frame. I did need to notch the lower lip on the tub to accommodate the extended frame.
For some time I have been planning on mounting water tanks under the bed of our M416 trailer. The idea was to be able to carry more water and to have the weight down low to help keep the trailer from tipping. I ordered two 15 gallon tanks off the Internet as a starting point…
I use my M416 exclusively as an off road adventure trailer. I have found the original springs to be a little stiff. To rectify this I ordered 8-leaf springs from JC Whitney and performed a quick swap. The springs are for the front of a CJ3 jeep. I also replace the shackle bolts at the…
For our adventure travels I run the same tires and rims on our M416 trailer as on the FJ. With the larger 295 tires additional fender clearance was needed as well as additional width. The M416 fenders have a lip that is about 1.25 inches that adds additional strength. By cutting this lip off I…
Our M-416 Military trailer is a continued work in progress. The project yesterday was to add wheel spacers to the axle. With the 295/17-17 tires mounted on the trailer I was having a problem with the tires rubbing on the trailer tub. I chose to add All Pro Off Road Toyota wheel spacers to move…
With the addition of the ARB rooftop tent to my expedition trailer came the need to be able to level the trailer. The existing trailer stand is of a fixed length and to level the trailer required stacking rocks. To make the system more functional I have added a crank up jack stand to the…
I finally received our new rooftop tent. The ARB tent was not large enough for 3 people so we are upgrading to a Ezi Awn T-Top 1800 RoofTop Tent. The 1800 is going to give us and additional 17 inches in width which will allow the 3 of us to have enough room to sleep….
