HAM Radio Install

Yaesu FT-8800r Install

As a HAM my mobile radio installation was one of the first modifications that I completed. My section of a radio needed to meet the following requirements:

  1. Have Dual VFO capability for U/U V/U and V/V
  2. Provide cross band repeater function
  3. Have a detachable head.

I have been using Yaesu radios for some time and like the menu structure and the solid construction. I picked that Yaesu FT8800 as my radio to install in the FJ Cruiser.

Choosing a location for the radio took some work. The FJ Cruiser has some room behind the left rear trim panel. This is the location of the AC inverter.

  1. I have been looking for a clean place to mount my Yaesu for quite some time. This is great; I had the panel off yesterday and notice the space but was too focused to put 2 and 2 together. Thanks.

  2. I’ve been getting my Nissan Titan more off road ready after some fun adventures. Been a HAM since 97′. I’m also searching for decent mounting locations. Think I need to get a little more creative!
